The Bayer Animal Health Legend of the Year Award

Bayer Animal Health recognizes the important role of veterinary professionals in maintaining the special bond between owners and their horses. The Bayer Animal Health Legend of the Year Award seeks to distinguish veterinary team members that go above and beyond everyday practice to provide exceptional equine care.

This year’s contest is now closed for entries.. Entries will be reviewed by a panel of veterinary health experts, and the winner will be announced during the American Association of Equine Practitioners’ 57th Annual Convention in November 2011.

Meet our 2011 Legend of the Year

2011 Legend of the Year

Last year’s inaugural recipient Dr. Liz Bracken of Atascadero, California is an example of a true living legend She not only ran a busy practice, providing exceptional equine care to her customers, but she spent the past five years spearheading an initiative that rehabilitates rescued horses for use by children in California. She also provided much needed veterinary care to underserved areas of Baja, Mexico. Dr. Bracken selected Miller’s Equestrian Center and Sanctuary to receive the $5,000 donation to support its mission to benefit children in the community through the rescue of horses.

Additional finalists recognized for their exceptional work included: Karina Benish, RVT of Ramona, Calif., Dr. Woodrow Friend of Lexington, Ky., Dr. Sheila Lyons of Brockton, Mass. and Dr. Mike Martin of Roseburg, Ore.
